Oh well, Zoro knows what to do about it. He slides an arm out of the green yukata he usually wears, letting it fall to the side and reveal the tattoo he'd gotten before Valentine's day. Then he approaches Ace, slipping a hand to the back of his neck and pressing a light kiss against his mouth]

Calm down. It's just a moment. That's all.

[he chuckles] This is good enough. [and he strokes the back of Ace's neck, looking into his eyes] Sit with me for a while. Have a drink. [another little kiss]

[He sits Zoro down, sits in his lap, and drinks.]

[No words. It's Zoro's turn to explain things to him.]

[Zoro drinks, too, letting the quiet be what it is for a moment, an arm around Ace's back. It's nice. More to the point it gives Ace a chance to bring things down.

After a while, he speaks]

Have you ever tried to feed a bird?

Doubt it.

[he doesn't know Marco that well, only by reputation, and reputation is enough]

Regular birds... they're small and frighten easily. So you have to hold out your hand and be patient. [he holds out his own] Maybe they'll come to you right away, maybe they won't. Maybe it will take days or weeks or not at all. But if you try to grab onto them before they're ready, they'll hurt themselves trying to fly away.

[he takes his sake and has another sip, before giving him a serious look]

And sometimes, Ace, birds want to be left alone. Sometimes they want to feel hard things and don't want to be made happy. If you want them as friends, hell, if you want to be their captain, you have to accept who they are and how they want to feel. You can't force help on anyone. [he nips Ace's shoulder affectionately]

But a good captain accepts his crew as they come and if he can't convince them, lets it be and lets them find their own way to happiness. Sometimes, all a captain has to be is himself, and that, for his crew, is enough.

[Takes Zoro's hand.] Nah, not like Marco. [Marco's not scared of ANYTHING EVER.]

[And then lets go of his hand, realizing the metaphor was continuing, and listens quietly.]

[And nods!]

[Pout.] But Leanne's a bird and I kidnapped her. Why did it work with her?

[Thinks.] Because I let her stay in the room? Mrrr... but I'm scared Adela won't come out if I do that. [HUFF.]

Everyone is different, that's all. And maybe she won't come, or maybe it will take her a long time. Only if you force it she's going to hurt herself and maybe even come to resent it.

Come to one of my meditation classes. Show her you can be friends without trying to drag her around, at least until she's ready for it.

I mean Rose, too, by the way. I've seen you arguing with her. You care and you want to have her be happy but you need to back down. Let her breathe. Let them both breathe. I promise you things will end up better for everyone involved including you.

Maybe. But I don't know any other way. And no, being nice or just... calm, is right out.

[he nods again] I don't know what to tell you. [hell if he knows. It's not really his business anyway. Not entirely] But I'll be here whatever happens.

... He has also seemed to return with a strange new sword. It changed its shape when he stopped holding it.
